About Hills Arts Centre
Hills Arts Centre provides unique workspace located in the heart of Sunderland City Centre.
Our flagship building was built in approximately 1856 and has a rich history, having served multiple generations of residents in many guises. It began as Doctor's Surgery, before becoming Sunderland's go to a book, arts and crafts store until 2003, when it was converted into a hairdressers. After that, the building was a charity shop, then it stood empty until we reinvigorated it as commercial and creative workspaces in 2021.
Today, Hills is a thriving local hub for creativity, with an Art Gallery, coffee shop and multiple creative businesses and artists. We invite everyone to come visit and explore the vibrant culture of this historic building.
Hills hosts a range of spaces, from private lockable rooms, to our open plan atrium, perfect for start-ups and hobbyists.
We also offer several retail spaces located on our ground floor.
